With seventeen weeks to go until the start of the 100th Tour de France in Corsica on 29th June, the official trailer has been released.
As this is the centenary Tour, there is a lot of focus on the history of the race. Hinault, Anquetil, Fignon, Merckx, Coppi, Indurain, LeMond, they’re all here (with the notable exception of Armstrong), and it is this section of the video, with the fantastic French commentary, that really send a shiver down my spine.
We also have brief glimpses of some of the riders of the current generation. Cavendish, Evans, Wiggins, Voeckler, Rolland, Schleck, Cancellara.
And for me, this is what the Tour de France is all about. It is about the riders in each edition trying to match, emulate, and surpass, the myths and legends that are an integral part of cycling.
